Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- valib sobiva materjali eri konstruktsioonidele ja süsteemile lähtudes funktsionaalsusest ja ümbritsevast keskkonnast;
- kasutab standardeid ja reegleid materjalide õigel valikul ja ekspluatatsioonil;
- tunneb peamisi meetodeid korrosiooni minimiseerimisel nii meretehnika konstruktsioonides kui ka torustikes;
- valib materjali töötlemiseks pädeva tehnoloogia

Student:
- chooses suitable material for different marine structures or systems depending on the functionality and surrounding environment;
- uses different standards and rules to choose proper material in compliance with regulations;
- knows the main types of material corrosion and wear, as well as the technologies for reducing the impacts of corrosion and environmental factors;
- chooses a competent technology for material processing.

Kursus keskendub erinevate materjalide kasutusele meretehnikas: terased, alumiiniumi sulamid, komposiitmaterjalid jne. Lisaks käsitletakse temaatikat korrosioonikaitsest kui ka kulumisest ning materjalide värvimise tehnoloogiast. Annab ülevaate peamistest materjalide liitmismeetoditest: keevitamine, lamineerimine jne.

The course focuses on the use of different materials in marine engineering: steel, aluminium alloys, composite materials, etc. In addition, the topic of corrosion protection as well as wear. Additionally, course provides an overview of the main methods of joining materials: welding, lamination, etc.
