VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- anda süsteemne ülevaade Läänemerest kui riimveelisest ökosüsteemist;
- tutvustada Läänemere bioloogilist mitmekesisust ja elusvaru;
- luua arusaam mereliikide nõudlusest kasvukeskkonna suhtes.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to:
- provide a systematic overview of the Baltic Sea as a brackish environment and patterns of biodiversity in it;
- introduce marine living resources and their utilization;
- to create an understanding of the demand of marine species for their growth environment.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab riimveelise elukeskkonna eripära Läänemere näitel;
- kirjeldab Läänemere elustiku peamisi komponente ja liikide nõudlust kasvukeskkonna suhtes;
- analüüsib looduslikuks väljapüügiks ja vesiviljeluseks sobivaid ökoloogilisi tingimusi;
- mõistab teha valikuid meretoorme väärindamiseks, arvestades inimtegevusest tulenevaid ohtusid Läänemeres.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing the course, the student:
- explains specific features of the Baltic Sea environment;
- describes biodiversity components and physiological adaptation of the species in the Baltic Sea;
- analyses environmental conditions suitable for wild harvesting and aquaculturing;
- assesses the valorization potential of marine resources considering chemical pollution and other environmental hazards in the Baltic Sea region.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Läänemere kujunemine. Läänemeri tänapäeval – hüdrograafia, ökoloogia, keemia. Merekeskkonna elupaigad – veesammas, merepõhi. Veesammas: füto- ja zooplankton. Merepõhi: füto- ja zoobentos. Elusvarud, tähtsamad liigid. Töönduslik püük, vesiviljelus. Läänemere keskkonnagradient. Elustiku taksonoomilised ja funktsionaalsed rühmad. Mereliikide määramine. Keemiline reostus ja ökotoksikoloogia. Väljapüük ja vesiviljelus. Mereliikide väärindamine. Võõrliikide ja mittekommertslike liikide kasutamise võimalused sinimajanduses.
brief description of the course in English
Evolution of the Baltic Sea. Abiotic conditions: Hydrography, chemistry, ecology. Water columns: phytoplankton, zooplankton. Seabed: zoobenthos, phytobenthos. Patterns of biodiversity. Chemical pollution and ecotoxicology. Wild harvesting and aquaculture. Valorization of marine species (focus on seaweeds and bivalves). Potential for utilization of marine invasive and non-commercial species in blue bioeconomy. Recent trends in the production (wild capture) and cultivation (aquaculture) of marine living resources.
