Aidata üliõpilastel omandada esmased üldised õigusteadmised, samuti anda põhjalikum ülevaade kehtivast EV õigussüsteemist, tähtsamatest õigusharudest ja õigusaktide sisust ning nende realiseerimise vormidest. Üliõpilased omandavad alusteadmisi euroopalikust õigussüsteemist ja õiguskultuurist.

Help student to acquire initial general understanding of law; also, provide a thorough overview of the valid legal system of the Estonian Republic, the most essential branches of law, the contents of legislative acts and forms of implementing those. Students acquire basic knowledge of European legal systems and judicial culture.

Õppeaine edukal läbimisel üliõpilane:
• Mõistab ühiskondlike suhete reguleerimise vajadust
• Mõistab õiguse olemust ning orienteerub peamiste õigusvaldkondade sisus ja põhimõtetes
• Tunneb erinevate sotsiaalsete normide spetsiifikat, õigussuhete struktuuri ja õiguslikke regulatsioone erinevates õigusharudes
• Oskab erialatöö praktikas lahendada kaasuseid, mis kuuluvad vastava ameti kompetentsi
• Omab üldisi teadmisi Eesti kohtusüsteemist

After successfully completing the course, the student:
• Understands the necessity to regulate social relationships
• Understands the nature of law, as well as the content and principles of the most important branches of law
• Knows the specific character of various social norms, structure of legal relationships and legal regulations in various branches of law
• Can solve cases in his/her professional practice that belong within the competence of his/her profession
• Has acquired general knowledge about the Estonian judicial system

Üldised teadmised õiguse olemusest. Sotsiaalne reguleerimine, õigusnormi mõiste, nende liigid. Õigussüsteem, õigusperekond, õigusharud. Õiguse realiseerimine õigussuhetes. Õiguse rikkumine ja juriidiline vastutus. Tsiviilõiguse üldküsimused, asjaõiguse mõiste ja sisu, äriõigus, võlaõigus, karistusõigus. Kohtu korraldus Eestis.

General knowledge about the nature of law. Social regulations, the concept and types of legal norms. Legal system, legal family, branches of law. Practicing law in legal relationships. Violations of law and legal responsibility. General issues of civil law, concept and contents of property law, business law, law of obligations, penal law. Organization of judicial system in Estonia.
