The aim of this course is to provide an in-depth analysis of important aspects and case law related to the foundations of law. Topics include definition of law, philosophy of law, different types of legal systems, the legal profession, ethics, etc. Due emphasis will be laid on appropriate case laws.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab õiguse ja õigusnormide filosoofilisi, ajaloolisi ja õiguslikke aluseid;
- selgitab erinevate õigusüsteemide olemust,
- võrdleb ja eristab analüütiliselt õiguslike küsimuste ja probleemide teooriaid ja põhimõtteid.

After completing this course the student:
- explains the philosophical, historical and legal foundations of laws,
- explains the essence of various types of legal systems;
- compares and contrasts analytically the theories and concepts to legal issues and problems.

Aine tutvustab tudengitele õiguse, õigusteooriate ja õigussüsteemide aluseid. Käsitletavad teemad hõlmavad õiguse mõistet, õiguse filosoofiat, erinevaid õigussüsteeme, juristikutset, eetikat jne. Oluline rõhk on asjakohasel kohtupraktikal.
