Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- selgitada Eesti aluspõhja ehitust, uuritust ja meetode.
- õpetada selgeks peamised kivimitüübid ja kivimikehad, nende omadused ja paiknemine;
- anda ülevaade Eesti geoloogilisest arenguloost;
- praktiseerida aluspõhjakivimite identifitseerimist ja kirjeldamist.

The aim of this course is to:
- explain the geological structure, investigation, and methods of Estonia's bedrock.
- provide a clear understanding of the main types of rocks and formations, their characteristics, and distribution;
- give an overview of Estonia's geological history;
- practice the identification and description of bedrocks.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- on kursis Eesti geoloogilise ehituse, uurimise ajaloo ja meetoditega;
- teab aluskorrakivimite põhitüüpe ja nende omadusi;
- tunneb Eesti settekivimite põhiüksusi lademe ja kihistu detailsusega;
- analüüsib aluspõhjakivimite esinemist etteantud Eesti piirkonnas;
- tunneb aluspõhja maavarasid jt rakenduslikke aspekte;
- omab praktilisi oskusi Eesti aluspõhja läbilõike kirjeldamiseks paljandis ja puursüdamikus.

After completing this course the student:
- knows geological structure of Estonia, research history, and methods;
- knows the main types and characteristics of basement rocks.
- is familiar with the basic units of sedimentary rocks in Estonia at the level of formation and stage.
- analyzes the occurrence of bedrocks in a given region of Estonia;
- is knowledgeable about the mineral resources of the basement and other practical aspects;
- has practical skills in describing sections of the Estonian bedrocks in outcrops and drill cores.

The main features and developmental history of the geological structure of Estonia, research and research methods; types of basement rocks, their characteristics, and principal rock units; stratigraphy, distribution and characteristics of Ediacaran rocks; stratigraphy and characteristics of Cambrian rocks; stratigraphy, distribution and characteristics of Ordovician rocks; stratigraphy, distribution and characteristics of Silurian rocks; stratigraphy, distribution and characteristics of Devonian rocks; bedrock mineral resources and other applications; obtaining practical skills to describe bedrock successions in outcrops and drill cores.
